Announcement: Bridge Walk for Water on Labor Day

Welcome back to school, MSU Law students! It's my twenty-fourth first day in this building.

In Michigan, every Labor Day the state closes the Mackinaw Bridge (The Big Mac) for a walk. The bridge is 5 miles long and can be a little terrifying, to be honest. I've gotten much better driving it ever since my oldest lived there for three years. This just might be the year I decide to walk it.

That's because the Three Fires Confederacy is asking for walkers to attend and walk in either traditional regalia or Stop Line 5 shirts to demonstrate in peaceful protest.

In the old days, they used to have busses to get people back to the other side of the Bridge if you walked the whole way. They don't do that anymore, so unless you have a ride back, you meet in the middle and head back to the side you started on. It's a full five miles if you do the whole thing, and uphill half way. But this water and land and yes, even the bridge, is a very special place, to all Michiganders, all who use the Great Lakes, and it's time to answer the call of the Confederacy to stand in its defense.
